The U.S. Senate Monday confirmed Gen. Paul Selva to be vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Selva has been the commander of the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base since April 2014. Senators also confirmed Gen Darren McDew to replace Selva as the next commander of the U.S. Transportation Command.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., issued separate statements congratulating both men. “During his tenure at Scott Air Force Base, Gen. Selva has distinguished himself as a strong, capable leader. Although we will miss having him in Illinois, I look forward to working with Gen. Selva in his new role here in Washington, D.C.”

Durbin also praised McDew’s many years of service in the Air Force -- “including time in three leadership positions at Scott Air Force Base. I am confident that Gen. McDew is well-qualified to continue USTRANSCOM’s track record of success. I am glad that he and his family will continue to call Scott home,” Durbin said.

Durbin is the vice chair of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for the military and intelligence community.
