Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn has signed legislation keeping the names of registered gun owners in Illinois secret.

Illinois lawmakers will not be addressing gun control legislation before the end of session. Some members of the state House of Representatives were scheduled to debate the proposal Sunday.

State Representative Eddie Acevedo favors the bill. He says he withdrew it since a similar attempt didn’t pass the Senate last week.

“Based on the tragedies that continue to occur with these mass killings, I think it’s important that we come to some sort of agreement that these weapons should not be in the hands of individuals that don’t necessarily should have them in their possession," Acevedo said.

Acevedo says he’ll try to pass an assault weapons ban after the winners of November’s election are sworn in on Wednesday.
