This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, May 21, 2012 - The Beacon is pleased to welcome Jason Rosenbaum to our reporting staff. Jason's byline already has appeared often as a freelancer. He will continue to report primarily on politics and political issues, joining the already strong Beacon political reporting team that includes Jo Mannies here and Rob Koenig in Washington.
A native of suburban Chicago, Jason graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2006. His work has appeared in publications such as the Columbia Daily Tribune, Missouri Lawyers Media, the Columbia Business Times and the St. Louis Business Journal. He also has written about music for the Riverfront Times.
During his time as a state government reporter for the Columbia Daily Tribune, he covered the Missouri General Assembly. He also covered local and national elections, including the presidential contest in 2008.
In Columbia, he recorded a weekly radio analysis for NPR affiliate KBIA. He also served as an adjunct instructor for Mizzou's J-School for a semester in 2009. After moving to St. Louis in 2010, he spent a year as the web editor for Missouri Lawyers Media.
For the past year and a half, he has freelanced for the Beacon. In addition to reporting on state, county and local government, Jason completed a series last summer examining homeland security spending in Missouri.
Jason resides in St. Louis Hills with his wife Lauren Todd, an engineering librarian at Washington University. In his spare time, he likes to run around Francis Park, sing karaoke and root for odd sports teams. He even wore a White Sox hat to Game 2 of the 2011 World Series, to the astonishment of bystanders.
