MoDOT Plans Weekend Closure Of Eastbound I-64

Missouri Department of Transportation

It will be another busy weekend in St. Louis and drivers should expect more traffic issues than usual.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is planning a full-closure of eastbound I-64 between Vandeventer and Forest Park Avenue. Ramps and lanes will be off-limits starting Friday night through Monday morning at 5.

"“We’re continuing some resurfacing work on the Interstate over Vandeventer. We’ll be removing, repairing and then replacing the driving surface on that roadway that goes over Vandeventer,” said MoDOT spokesman Andrew Gates.

The roadwork comes on the same weekend as the LouFest at Forest Park and Sunday's home opener for the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome.

"There is always something going on on the weekends. We try to work our way around the events that are going in there – try to adjust things- so that we can minimize the impact as much as possible as we go through and use the limited weekends we have available to do this work," said Gates.

MoDot suggests drivers take Hampton to eastbound I-44 as a detour around the roadwork.

The lane closings on eastbound I-64 begin at 9 Friday night. Eventually, the interstate will be fully-closed after the Tower Grove to Forest Park Avenue. Ramps from eastbound I-64 to Tower Grove, Hampton and Kingshighway will remain open.

MoDOT is also planning maintenance work on westbound I-70 at the Blanchette Bridge. Two westbound lanes on I-70 will be closed at 8 Friday night and should be open by 6 Sunday evening.

The department has posted a map of its current work zones throughout the state.
