New agreement keeps Symphony's David Robertson here through 2016

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Jan. 3, 2013 - St. Louis Symphony music director David Robertson has signed an extension of his contract, preserving his position with the orchestra through the 2015-16 season.

The agreement, which comes in Robertson’s eighth season with the SLSO, was lauded by Symphony president Fred Bronstein and board of trustees chairman Ned Lemkemeier.

“He is recognized around the world for his virtuosity and musical integrity, and has helped elevate the profile of our Symphony during his time here in St. Louis,” Lemkemeier said, in a press release.

“The extension of David Robertson’s contract is another critical piece of the St. Louis Symphony’s continuing progress towards institutional strength and stability,” Bronstein said in the release.

Robertson’s agreement follows last June’s early extension of the musicians’ contract through 2017.

Robertson joined the SLSO in 2005 as its 12th music director. This past September, he led the Symphony on a European tour, its first international engagement in 14 years. The tour included successful performances in London, Berlin, Lucerne and Paris. This spring, he will lead the orchestra on a tour of California cities.

“I couldn’t be more delighted to extend my relationship with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra,” Robertson said, in the release. “I look forward to planning more exciting activities with them in St. Louis, around the country and around the world.”
