The Rep has new associate artistic director

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, April 1, 2010 - Seth Gordon, of the Cleveland Playhouse will be the new associate artistic director of the St. Louis Repertory Theatre. He replaces Susan Gregg who died unexpectedly in July 2009.

The St. Louis Repertory Theatre has hired Seth Gordon of the Cleveland Playhouse as its new associate artistic director. Gordon replaces Susan Gregg, who died unexpectedly in July 2009 after 21 years with the Rep.

As Cleveland Playhouse's associate artistic director, Gordon directed "Dinner with Friends," "Proof," "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "Doubt" among other plays. Other directing experience includes work for the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival and the Arabic premiere of "Our Town" in Cairo.

Gordon has previously worked as literary manager and associate director of Primary Stages in New York. There, he produced and directed productions, workshops and readings of leading playwrights.

"He will be a strong addition to our staff and to the theater community here," said the Rep's artistic director Steven Woolf in a press release. "Seth has done a lot of work in new play development at Primary Stages in New York and also while working at The Cleveland Play House."

In the release, Gordon called the Rep's work "top notch" and said he looks forward to working in St. Louis.

"My career has been devoted to the development of new plays and bringing the finest theatre possible to my community in ways that are relevant to them," Gordon said in the release. "I can't wait to meet my new community and I hope to serve them well."
