Six months after reaching a long-term contract extension with its musicians, the St. Louis Symphony has locked in another crucial piece of the musical puzzle.
The Symphony announced today that music director David Robertson will remain with the ensemble through the 2015-2016 season. He came to St. Louis in 2005, and this past year led the orchestra on its first international tour in 14 years.
"We are delighted that David will continue as St. Louis Symphony music director," Symphony board chairman Ned Lemkemeier said in a statement. "He is recognized around the world for his virtuosity and musical integrity, and has helped elevate the profile of our Symphony during his time here in St. Louis."
In his own statement, Robertson said he couldn't be more delighted to sign an extension.
"This is a group of musicians whose qualities I find singular in the world," he said. "Their professional spirit, warmth, enthusiasm and love of sharing music's joy have made all of my time with them feel like a precious gift."
Robertson made about $960,000 in 2010, the last year for which records are publicly available. His salary in the new contract was not immediately available.
