Roll Call on Iraq Resolution

AP/KWMU – Most area lawmakers voted in favor of giving President Bush the power to launch an attack against Iraq yesterday.

In the House, two area Democrats, William Lacy Clay of St. Louis and Jerry Costello of Belleville, were the only St. Louis area Representatives to vote against the resolution.

Republicans Todd Akin, JoAnn Emerson, and John Shimkus voted for it. House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, Illinois' David Phelps, and Democratic candidate for Governor Rod Blagojevich were among the few Democrats supporting the resolution.

In the U.S. Senate, Illinois' Peter Fitzgerald, as well as Missouri Senators Jean Carnahan and Kit Bond all voted for the resolution. Democrat Dick Durbin, of Illinois, voted "no."
