Saint Louis University Testing New Alzheimers Device

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis University is conducting a clinical trial on a new device that may slow or even halt the progression of Alzheimer's disease, especially for those in early stages. The surgically implanted device is a pump that increases the
flow of a fluid in the brain. Poor circulation of the fluid can cause proteins in the brain to build up, and that may contribute to the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia characterized by intellectual deterioration. Saint Louis University says it is the only site in Missouri to conduct the research. Those interested in learning about their eligibility for the study may call 314-268-5880.
