Tap takeovers, National Mead Day, beer and cheese, beer and brats, beer and chocolate, dim sum and beer, yoga and beer, burgers and beer, art and beer, popcorn and beer, and beer artfully paired with only the finest varieties of Doritos: Surely in all of this there must be music.
And there is. St. Louis Craft Beer Week is fairly selective in its musical pairings, but a review of the long list of beer events (someone has to do it) came up with some gems.
The “week” runs from July 25 through Aug. 2, and includes venues throughout the area.
Craft Beer Week's opening night party will start the music at 8:30 p.m. July 25 at Cicero’s, 6691 Delmar Blovd. The band is Hazard to Ya Booty. The next day Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, 3229 Washington Ave., will host a Blues & Que with Paul Bonn and Bluesmen playing from 1-5 p.m.
Looking ahead, that same Urban Chestnut location will host Oktoberfest in July on July 31. In the description, “Live music by Larry Hallar” is followed by "Oompah! Prost!" Could an accordion be involved?
On Aug. 1, a Deschutes Bee sampling will be at Blues City Deli, 2438 McNair Ave., and blues music is promised. Live music is also said to be part of the Grove Criterium Bike Race & Craft Beer event, which will go from 1-8 p.m., with the Grove location of Urban Chestnut as beer headquarters. East of Urban Chestnut in the Grove is where you’ll find the "Jerry Garcia birthday bash” at Atomic Cowboy. And at a Garcia party, one must have music.
All that leads to the finale from noon-4 p.m. Aug. 2 behind Rooster, 3150 S. Grand Blvd.: The Schurcipefones Festival. This one isn’t free (though the beer isn’t free at any of the other events, either).
