Taxicab Owners, Drivers Criticize Regulation Plan

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Taxicab drivers from St. Louis city and county voiced their concerns over proposed regulations at a public hearing today. The Metropolitan Taxicab Commission was created earlier this year by state lawmakers to regulate cabs in the region. But many of the proposed codes are opposed by cab owners and drivers, like one that would require cars older than six years to be replaced. The commission, however, says such a move would be in the public's best interest because it would get older, and presumably unsafe, cars off the road. The commission has another three months to gather comments and write a working code.
