Two Tuskegee Airmen To Serve As Fair Saint Louis Honorary Grand Marshals

(Kristi Luther/St. Louis Public Radio)

Next week will mark the 33rd annual Fair Saint Louis, and two surviving Tuskegee Airmen will serve as honorary grand marshals of the 136th VP Parade.

Grand Marshal Bill Macon announced Friday that Lieutenant Colonel George Hardy and Major George Boyd will be a part of the parade, a central event during the fair.

"It is a fitting tribute to have these two patriots, who helped break down military and racial barriers, participate in our Independence Day parade where we celebrate freedom and equality that make this country great," Macon said.

The parade also will have both a new route and start time, beginning at 9:30 a.m. outside of the St. Louis Central Library and proceeding down Washington Avenue.
