Alton, Ill. – The largest blue catfish ever caught in the world will be kept alive and on display in Kansas City, Kansas.

It took Tim Pruitt more than a half hour to drag the fish into his boat Saturday near the Mel Price Lock and Dam at Alton.

He ended up with a 58-inch long, 124-pound catfish, the largest ever caught in Illinois and the largest blue catfish ever caught in the world. The last world record was 121 pounds, 8 ounces.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says the fish has been kept alive and will be on display in a tank at the Cabela's Outfitter store in Kansas City.

Tim's catch even got him a mention on NPR's Morning Edition --->
