The Music of "Fats" Waller and New Music
Jazz Unlimited for Sunday evening, July 28, the quieter side of jazz will present the rollicking music of Thomas “Fats” Waller. It will be interpreted by Fats himself and pianists James P. Johnson, Earl Hines, Dick Hyman and St. Louis’s own Ralph Sutton and his sister Barbara Sutton Curtis. The new music segment in the last two hours will present music by trumpeters Ralph Alessi and Melton Mustafa, the Joel Harrison 19, saxophonist Mark Gross, Oliver Jones and the “Saskatchewan Suite,” pianists Fred Hersch, Laszlo Gardony, Kenny Barron, Jacky Terrasson, Kenny Barron and Edward Simon, drummer Scott Newman, guitarist Ben Monder and an exciting new young group called RJ and the Association.
