Circus Harmony, the local social circus, is preparing for a series of performances at the City Museum in January. Their forthcoming show “Accelerando” is a circus spy thriller where the performers twirl and climb their way to finding a top-secret document that has gone missing.

On Wednesday’s St. Louis on the Air, Jessica Hentoff, artistic and executive director of the organization, joined host Don Marsh discuss the shows and other programs the circus is conducting.

The idea for the upcoming full-length show came from of the young performers themselves, who chose the name, theme, act, characters and more. Hentoff reiterated that while the performers are young, it is for an audience of all ages.

“One of the issues that I think we face is that people think of Circus Harmony as a youth circus, and yes – these are young people performing – but they’re at such at a phenomenally high level that you are going to see a professional circus show,” Hentoff explained.

Circus Harmony recently received one of the 2019 Missouri Arts Awards for its efforts in arts education.

“A lot of people think of circus as light and fluffy, and no, it is a serious art form and a tremendous form of art education,” Hentoff added.
