William Danforth founded the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in 1998.

William H. Danforth II died on Wednesday. The former chancellor of Washington University helped transform the institution into a top-tier school, and he was the founding chairman of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center.

Danforth was a guest on St. Louis on the Air several times. On today’s program we listened to excerpts from his appearance in February 2008. Danforth talked about his upbringing, the mission of the plant science center and his hope for the future.
