Building boom can be measured in number of cranes in the sky.

St. Louis has had a banner year for construction in 2018. The number of building permits issued was up in 17 of the city's 28 wards. The value of new projects totals more than $1 billion, and dozens of projects are on the drawing board, or ready to break ground, in 2019.

The St. Louis Development Corporation has kicked off a campaign of town hall meetings aimed at improving its public image.

SLDC executive director Otis Williams on Tuesday told an audience at the LaunchCode headquarters on Delmar Boulevard, in the Fountain Park neighborhood, “We want to become more transparent.”

The task force will explore what kinds of affordable housing county residents need and how to finance the trust fund.

The county has assembled a task force to develop recommendations for promoting housing "equity, fairness and inclusion in our region," St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger announced at a news conference Wednesday morning.

Michael and Danielle Abril are active members of the Meacham Park Neighborhood Association. They show up at meetings. They volunteer. They help inform others in the community.

“Meacham Park is a blessing to us because it allowed us to be relatively close to my work and in a great place, a great community,” Michael Abril said.

The neighborhood is a mostly black area of Kirkwood that had been segregated from the rest of the city for years. But that’s changing.

While giving a tour of a two-story, French colonial style home that's for sale on the north side of Ferguson, realtor Pearce Neikirk said the past months have been hard on his business.

“All of us are working without the rule book here,” Neikirk said. “We don’t know how to work with this kind of a situation.”

Voting "yes" on Amendment 3 would change the Missouri Constitution to bar any future implementation of a "transfer tax," a tax that a state collects when property changes hands.

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, June 22, 2009 - Dozens of real-estate agents weathered the summer heat on Tuesday to attend the first open house at the recently formed Skinker High-Rise District. Agents toured available units and common spaces in all five high-rises and enjoyed lunch and dessert from several nearby restaurants.

Mark Tucker, vice president of the district's board, said, "We've had great reaction from people who have been here." Visitors, he said, were "impressed" with the buildings' offerings.
