St. Louis, MO – A federal judge plans to issue a retraining order Friday that will keep a new abortion wait period in Missouri from taking effect this weekend.
The requirement that women wait 24 hours after talking to a doctor before getting an abortion became law with when the Missouri House and Senate overrode a governor's veto last month.
His clerk says Senior U.S. District Judge Scott Wright held a closed telephone conference call Wednesday with attorneys for the state and Planned Parenthood affiliates.
Planned Parenthood claims the law is unconstitutionally vague and broad.
Wright plans a January 27th hearing in Jefferson City on whether to issue a preliminary or permanent injunction against the law.
