WASHINGTON – A train loaded with high-level nuclear waste is expected to pass through Missouri sometime later this year, and a nuclear watchdog group plans to protest the shipment.
Nuclear Information and Resource Service Spokesman Kevin Kamps says state officials have not been properly informed about the shipment and may not be prepared if an accident were to occur.
"The Department of Energy should not be transporting the material at this time and it should certainly be completely transparent with the public and with officials about what's going on," Kamps said.
In 2001, the group protested along the train route. The shipment was canceled because of security concerns.
