St. Louis – A suburban St. Louis man who admitted robbing a dozen area banks has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $105,000 in restitution.
Donald Giammanco, known as the "Boonie Hat Bandit," was sentenced Thursday .
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Reap has said Giammanco made off with amounts ranging from 13-hundred to 26,000 dollars.
Giammanco earned the nickname because he twice wore military-style, floppy-brimmed "Boonie" hats during robberies.
