Child predator arrests the highest in the country

By Bill Raack, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis, MO – The FBI office in St. Louis has arrested more child predator suspects than any other FBI field office.

Special Agent in Charge John Gillies says it's not that eastern Missouri has more child predators in its population than any other place in the country. But he says officials are actively looking for them and have put a lot of resources into the effort.

"The predators think that they can hide in the security of their homes and I'm here to tell them that they may feel safe while they're abusing and sexually exploiting our children but we're coming after them," Gillies said a press conference Wednesday.

Gillies says more than 106 child predator suspects have been arrested since the start of 2008 by agents in the St. Louis office.

There have been 114 indictments with 93 convictions.
