St. Louis, MO – The City of St. Louis is encouraging residents to wrap up their holiday season by giving the environment a little present and recycling holiday waste.
The U.S. generates an additional one to five million tons of waste per week during the holiday season.
Jill Hamilton, recycling program manager with the city says wrapping paper -excluding foil, handles, strings, tissue and ribbon - can easily be recycled by placing wrapping in any bin marked for magazines, newspapers or office paper. "One of the products they manufacture is newsprint and one of their clients is the St. Louis Post-Dispatch," said Hamilton. "It's already getting recycled within our community."
That means your holiday wrapping may surreptitiously show up in your Sunday paper one day.
City residents can either place wrapping paper in their blue recycling bins or drop the materials off at any of the city's dropoff locations.
