St. Louis, MO – Telemarketers in Missouri are waiting to see what effect the national 'do not call' list will have. The president of a St. Louis telemarketing firm says thousands of Missouri jobs are in danger because of the list.
At least ten-thousand Missourians are employed by the telemarketing industry. Beginning in September, telemarketers will have to check the list every three months to make sure they don't call anyone on it. Anyone who calls a person on the 'do not call' list could be fined up to $11,000 for each violation.
Gregory Johnston of Thumbs-Up Telemarketing calls the no-call lists an overreaction to a consumer concern.
