Drowning of teen likely an accident

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Lake St. Louis, Mo. – Authorities say the drowning of a teenager at Lake St. Louis was an apparent accident.

The victim was 17-year-old Cole Schlogl of Florissant.

Neighbors heard calls of distress just after midnight Monday and saw people jumping into the water and yelling the victim's name.

Lake St. Louis police and the Missouri Water Patrol arrived to help, and the victim's body was found around 4 a.m.

Authorities say Schlogl was part of a group of seven friends who had been drinking on a boat. He and another friend decided to swim. When Schlogl didn't return, some of the friends jumped in the water and tried to find him.

Police are awaiting autopsy results, but there was no indication of foul play.
