East-West Gateway names new executive director

By Bill Raack, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis, MO – The transportation planning agency East-West Gateway Council of Governments has named a new executive director.

Franklin County presiding commissioner Ed Hillhouse will fill the position left vacant by the departure of Les Sterman. Hillhouse says the region is facing difficult choices regarding which transportation projects move forward and which are postponed until more money is available.

"The minute you start putting one, you know, backing it up a year, or backing 20 projects up a year, then you push other projects back unless the pie gets bigger. So, I'm under no illusion that it's going to be easy in that sense," Hillhouse said Wednesday.

Hillhouse says he'll leave his Franklin County post early in order to start the East-West Gateway job November 1st. he's been serving as the chairman of East-West Gateway's board of directors.
