Federal agents raid East St. Louis mayor's office

By Maria Altman, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – The FBI and IRS raided the East ST. Louis mayor's office Thursday.

Mayor Alvin Parks was out of town when the raid occurred. Parks later said, though, that the search warrant listed both the mayor's office and liquor commissioner.

Parks serves as both.

He said the city will support and cooperate with any investigation, but Parks said he did not know what officials were looking for.

City Manager Robert Betts told the Belleville-News Democrat that agents from the Internal Revenue Service are seeking documents related to liquor license fees.

Betts says he has been interviewed in his office.
