St. Louis, MO – A fiery accident on I-270 in north St. Louis County created a major traffic snarl this afternoon. A Federal Express
18-wheeler carrying two trailers struck a sign truss in the eastbound lanes near Highway 367. No one was injured, but Chief Joe Bommarito with the Riverview Fire Protection District says witnesses reported seeing several explosions.
He says the initial explosion came from a fuel tank, and that subsequent explosions were caused by the tires on the rig.
The truck was not carrying any hazardous materials, though the accident littered the highway with debris.
