By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Chicago, IL – The last chief of staff to Rod Blagojevich started what is expected to be several days on the stand at the former Illinois governor's corruption trial.

John Harris ended his first day on the stand Monday and is expected there for much of this week.

Harris told jurors about Blagojevich's seemingly frantic efforts to get a job for his wife, Patti. Harris said Blagojevich once said he'd cut state contracts to two companies he felt didn't do enough to help land his wife a job.

Harris pleaded guilty to participating in Blagojevich's alleged plan to sell or trade President Obama's old Senate seat. He's testifying against his former boss in exchange for leniency when he's sentenced.
