Fox, Kinder, Sinquefield provide last-minute campaign cash

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder isn't the only Republican to toss out last-minute financial help to the GOP's two battling candidates for state auditor: Tom Schweich and Allen Icet.

Arguably the state's most influential GOP donors, financier Rex Sinquefield and manufacturing magnate Sam Fox, also have written hefty last-minute checks right before Tuesday's primary.

On Friday, Fox (left) donated $30,000 to Schweich. Sinquefield(right) contributed $25,000 to Icet.

Fox's contribution is in addition to $23,000 he and his wife, Marilyn Fox, earlier gave to Schweich.

Sinquefield's was his first direct donation to Icet.

Schweich has raised far more than Icet, largely because of direct and indirect aid from Fox and Kinder, both tied to the party's pro-business wing. The lieutenant governor donated $120,000 to Schweich on Friday, in addition to $100,000 he gave earlier.

Meanwhile, Icet also received $5,000 on Friday from Joan Langenberg -- state president of the Eagle Forum, a conservative group founded by Phyllis Schlafly. That help highlights Icet's ties to the GOP's social conservative bloc.
