Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Bob Holden has about $2 million ($2.01 million) in his campaign coffers. Finance reports were due Tuesday.
One possible Democratic opponent to Holden in next year's race for Governor is State Auditor Claire McCaskill, who reported just more than $1 million ($1.04 million).
The likely GOP nominee, Secretary of State Matt Blunt, also had about a million dollars on hand.
Incumbent governors typically are expected to have more money than challengers this far before an election. But all three campaigns say their fund-raising totals are good.
Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Kit Bond has almost $3 million, even though he hasn't formally announced whether he'll seek reelection next year.
He has $2.8 million in cash on hand, which is the amount Bond can spend on commercials and other campaign tactics next year.
That amount surpasses all previous U.S. Senate candidates in Missouri at this point in the campaign cycle.
The Democrats haven't yet found a well-known candidate to challenge Bond.
