Hynes Campaigns for U.S. Senate in Metro East

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Several U.S. Senate candidates from Illinois are criss-crossing the state this month to tout their platforms.

Friday, Democratic State Comptroller Dan Hynes visited parts of the Metro East.

Hynes campaigned in Alton and Belleville as part of a 21-county tour. He says if elected, he'll push for tax credits for U.S. businesses to keep jobs at home.

Hynes says he'll also work to stop frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits.

"They cause doctors to engage in defensive medicine and they do contribute to the high cost of health care," Hynes said. "So stopping frivolous lawsuits and getting the insurance companies to start answer questions and holding them accountable, I think, is the answer."

A total of 15 Democrats and Republicans are running for Illinois' soon to be vacated Senate seat. The state holds its primary March 16.
