Illness outbreak forces closure of YMCA camp

By AP/KWMU

Potosi, Mo. – Officials at a YMCA camp south of St. Louis say all buildings will be cleaned thoroughly after a wave of illnesses forced the facility to close.

About 70 campers and counselors at Camp Lakewood near Potosi reported nausea, vomiting and diarrhea over the past several days.

The camp shut down Monday and will remain closed through Saturday.

Health officials and doctors who have been working with the camp do not suspect H1N1 swine flu.

Camp Lakewood officials say they follow federal guidelines on health, and give campers instructions about proper hygiene.

Last week, kids at a camp in southwest Missouri were sent home early after a similar outbreak.
