St. Louis – A Missouri state senator who has been a part-time lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis has canceled plans to teach a class this fall.
Democratic Sen. Jeff Smith of St. Louis was to teach a course about St. Louis politics, culture and society. But the university said Wednesday that Smith asked last week to be relieved of those duties.
Smith is facing a federal inquiry related to his unsuccessful 2004 congressional campaign. He has declined to comment to The Associated Press.
Smith was elected to the Missouri Senate in 2006. He taught a course at Washington University last year about political campaigns.
