Jetton to testify before federal grand jury

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Kansas City, Mo. – A federal grand jury is continuing its investigation into former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton.

The panel will meet today and tomorrow in Kansas City to hear testimony about the Republican lawmaker's handling of a 2005 bill that sought to toughen regulations on sexually oriented businesses.

The adult entertainment industry contributed $35,000 to a political committee shortly before Jetton sent the bill to a House committee whose chairman opposed it.
Jetton denies any wrongdoing and plans to testify tomorrow.

The bill at issue did eventually pass out of the House Committee but never reached the House floor. The Legislature passed a separate version, but it was struck down in court for technical reasons.

In a separate case, Jetton faces arraignment tomorrow in southeast Missouri on charges that he assaulted a woman during rough sex.
