St. Louis, MO – Republican Jim Talent is a step closer to being a full-fledged member of the US Senate. Talent took an administrative oath of office at a ceremony Monday in St. Louis. Because he won a special election, Talent was able to take the oath before other freshman senators, thereby giving him more seniority. That seniority could bode well for Talent's assignment to certain Senate committees. As a congressman, Talent once chaired the House Small Business Committee. He says he'll use that background to ensure the government's procurement procedures are open to small businesses.
Talent will take another oath in January that will qualify him as a voting member of the Senate.
