Last month, a gunman killed three missionaries in Yemen. And recently, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod World Mission - headquartered in St. Louis - had to evacuate its own missionaries from the Ivory Coast and Venezuela. Each country's situation is different but all have become potentially deadly for missionaries.
Dr. William Foster, a critical care specialist and missionary to the Ivory Coast, recently returned to the US after being held captive.
While debriefing the mission director in St. Louis, he spoke with KWMU's Hillary Wicai about the current world climate and why missionaries are targets.
