Man arrested in connection with arson at Russ Carnahan's campaign office

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – A man is in custody in connection with a fire at the St. Louis campaign office of Democratic Congressman Russ Carnahan.

A campaign spokeswoman says there was minor damage, but the office remains open.

A witness called 911 early yesterday after hearing glass breaking and smelling smoke.

The arsonist apparently smashed a back window and tossed a burning object into the building.

Police gave no details about the arrest, saying only that the suspect is a white male.

Russ Carnahan is running for his fourth term in the U.S. House. He faces Republican Ed Martin in November.

In a statement, Martin condemned the attack. He says while there's a lot of angst and frustration among voters, violence is never the answer.
