Clayton, Mo. – A 24-year-old man has been charged with a brutal home invasion that left two south St. Louis county residents badly injured.
Rashad El faces 13 counts including assault, robbery and burglary.
St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch said money was El's motive.
"Mr. El had done some work for the victim in this case and wasn't particularly reliable, and the victim wasn't rehiring him, and he showed up looking for money and/or property to steal," McCulloch said.
Brad Schein and Darlene Hopkins suffered severe injuries to their heads and upper bodies.
McCulloch said both are in very serious critical condition. Schein remained unconscious as of Tuesday, but Hopkins has woken up several times.
Police said a second suspect remains at large.
