McCaskill Promises Thorough SLPS Audit

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU News

St. Louis, MO – McCaskill says her office will begin the audit as quickly as possible, but cautions that it won't provide immediate answers.

She says the audit will look at the district's finances, management and performance starting at least a year before the hiring of an interim management team last May. A primary goal will be to identify the cause of a projected $90 million budget deficit. McCaskill says her staff will not rush through the process.

"We want to make this as full and complete as possible," McCaskill said. "The worst thing that could happen would be for us to finish this audit and there still be questions that are unanswered about what the true facts are concerning the true financial condition of this district."

McCaskill says her team will try to divide the audit into parts so that the public can be periodically updated on its results.
