Memorial Day Observed

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – Special Memorial Day events included a service at Jefferson Barracks to honor those who died in service to the United States. The Air Force Band of Mid America and the St. Louis Gateway singers performed.

US Senator Jim Talent of Missouri took part in a Memorial Day ceremony at the Warren County Courthouse. He says it's important to remember those who gave their lives for the country.

We're free, and the world has a hope for freedom because of the willingness of young men and women to go do this," Talent said. "It's not something they talk about a lot...but it keeps us free."

Missourians and Illinoisans are marked Memorial Day in a variety of traditional means including parades, cemetery visits, holiday services and barbecues.
