Metro getting ready for service restorations

By Rachel Lippmann, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – MetroLink trains will run more often, and Metro will add extra trains during special events, when the agency begins restoring service at the end of June.

Metro planning director Jessica Mefford-Miller said the agency will also add buses to its busiest routes on June 28. She said riders will see some changes when the bulk of bus service is restored in August.

We're going to modify or split up some of the routes," Mefford-Miller said. "We've figured out some things that are going to make more sense for the system, splitting some of the longer routes so we can run appropriate vehicle sizes eventually, and appropriate frequencies on different segments of routes that today are very long."

Metro cut nearly half of its bus routes and reduce MetroLink service after the failure of a half-cent sales tax increase in November 2008. But voters approved the same tax this past April.
