St. Louis, MO – The public transit agency Metro is rolling out a new look for its downtown St. Louis buses today.
Metro and civic boosters are hoping that renaming the buses "trolleys" - and wrapping them to look like old-time streetcars -- will convince more residents and visitors to ride rather than drive between downtown attractions and businesses. Diane Williams is a spokeswoman for Metro.
"We're that folks from the far reaches of our county come back to use this because now they can get around downtown more easily and we're hoping the people who visit us now know that they've got a way to get into downtown and get around downtown that is one big loop and that they can have a lot of fun travelling to all the different places downtown," Williams said.
The trolley replaces a downtown circulator bus that has been operating for a few months.
