Missouri Doesn't Want to Chance Massive Power Outage

St. Louis, Mo. – A massive power outage is unlikely to happen in Missouri.

That's according to the state's largest electric company. AmerenU-E says power generators are closer to the demand here and Missouri's central location makes it interconnected to other state
systems that could help in a jam.

The state isn't taking any chances however. The Missouri Department of Homeland Security, the University of
Missouri and Missouri Public Service Commission are in talks with Los Alamos National Laboratory over concerns about a possible widespread power failure.

Missouri Homeland Security Director Tim Daniel says the partners would like Los Alamos scientists to develop a computer model to identify what might cause a serious power outage in the St. Louis
region, and how to prevent it.
