Missouri Execution Set for Midnight

Potosi, Mo. – Missouri is preparing to execute a man just after midnight tonight for a 1984 killing at a tavern in Poplar Bluff.

Kenneth Kenley was convicted in the 1984 shooting death of tavern patron Ronald Felts as part of a one-night crime spree. Authorities say Kenley tried to kill several other people that night. His lawyers are appealing to federal court, and Gov. Bob Holden is considering a clemency request.

This is the first scheduled execution in Missouri since former Illinois Governor George Ryan cleared that state's death row.
