Missouri Officials to Announce Additional Cuts

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's budget director says a new
round of state budget cuts -- including layoffs -- will be announced Thursday morning.

Linda Luebbering says the number of layoffs won't be in the thousands, and many may involve positions already vacant.
The cuts are the result of the tight Missouri budget.

Luebbering estimates state revenues will be $300 million short of what's needed to run state government through the fiscal year that ends June 30th.

Luebbering estimates the state will be one billion dollars in the red for fiscal year beginning July first.

The current $18.9 billion state budget was
based on revenue growth estimates of 3.1 percent. Those revenues, however, remained flat.
