Jefferson City, MO – The state of Missouri took in more money in October, but that's only because the federal government sent the state a big check.
With the $95 million from Washington, Missouri revenues were up 17% over October 2002. But without that money, the state took in 4% less tax money. Overall, tax collections are up by less than 2% this fiscal year over last year. The federal payment also affects the bigger picture. State revenues are up 10% for the first four months of the fiscal year. But excluding the federal payment, net general tax revenues went up just over five percent.
