Jefferson City, MO – A Senate committee today refused to vote
on proposals to raise taxes.
The lack of action effectively sets aside measures that supporters say are vital to curing Missouri budget woes.
The Senate Ways and Means Committee did not vote on any of the seven proposals designed to increase state revenues. Thus the panel prevented the bills from being sent to the full Senate for debate.
The four Republican members of the committee had previously vowed to reject all the bills.
The meeting came just hours before the full Senate was scheduled to begin debating budget bills previously vetoed by Governor Holden.
