Missouri students beat national average on SAT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –

Missouri students scored lower on the SAT college entrance exam than last year but still fared better than students nationally.

The College Board that overseas the test released this year's totals to the public Monday.

Missouri Department of Education spokeswoman Michele Clark says the scores dipped as more students were tested.

More than 1.5 million members of the class of 2010 from across the country and 2,930 in Missouri took the test through March.

The average score for Missouri high school students in critical reading was 593, compared with 501 nationally. In math, Missouri had an average score of 595, compared with 516 nationally. Theaverage writing score in Missouri was 580, compared with 492 nationally.
