Missourians honor those killed eight years ago

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Communities across the area are marking the eighth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks today.

At the Hispanic Festival in downtown St. Louis, organizers are setting up a traditional altar to honor people killed on 9/11.

The Saint Louis University College Republicans are planting 2,977 American flags on campus, and in O'Fallon, Mo., a ceremony to honor first responders begins at 8.30 a.m.

Gov. Jay Nixon and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder are among several state officials scheduled to speak at the ceremony at the state Capitol in Jefferson City.

A flyover by Missouri National Guard helicopters is also planned, and the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive.
