Jefferson City, MO – A lobby groups for doctors in Missouri wants Governor Bob Holden to call a special session to consider new restrictions on medical malpractice lawsuits.

Some doctors' malpractice insurance premiums have tripled and quadrupled, even though they haven't been named in a malpractice lawsuit.

The request from the Missouri State Medical Association comes just two weeks after Holden vetoed a bill backed by the group. That measure would have imposed new limits not only on medical malpractice lawsuits but all personal injury lawsuits.

Holden objected to the broad scope of the bill. A spokesperson says Holden will consider the new request from the group.
